Will IUPUC have a Spring 2021 Commencement Celebration?
Answer: We are HOPEFUL THAT WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF PUBLIC HEALTH GUIDANCE AT THAT TIME, we will be able to host our graduates and their guests in person on campus and recognize you at the May 2021 commencement. It is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 3 pm, Columbus East High School.
- Can I attend the IUPUC Spring 2021 Commencement Celebration if I am an IUPUC 2019 or 2020 graduate?
Answer: Yes, you are strongly encouraged to attend, and even though you will have been a graduate since 2019 or 2020, your class will receive special recognition and attention at the Commencement Celebration in spring 2021.
- How can I receive information about the IUPUC Spring 2021 Commencement Celebration if I am an IUPUC 2019 or 2020 graduate?
Answer: IUPUC is doing its utmost to keep track of all recent graduates. An email message from your Commencement office has been sent/will be sent to all recent graduates, to your IU email address. You are also encouraged to refer often to our website, https://graduation.iupuc.edu/about-ceremonies/commencement-celebration/index.html, look for emails directed to you about the spring events, follow IUPUC Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts, and email our office, vicechancellor@iupuc.edu, with any questions.
- What do I do if I have already ordered my apparel?
Answer: If you are a 2019/2020 graduate and would like to participate in IUPUC’s in-person Commencement Celebration in May, there will be rent-free gowns (and rent-free hoods for graduate students) available to 2019/2020 graduates on the 2021 Commencement Celebration day. Be sure to bring your cap with tassel (and stole if you earned a bachelor’s degree) to the in-person Commencement.
- When and how do I order apparel if I have not already done so?
Answer: It is ordered online and mailed to the U.S. Mail address that you specify. Orders will be open in early Spring 2021.

Yes, every student participating in the IUPUC Celebration will be individually recognized as they walk across the stage to accept their diploma cover from the vice chancellor & dean. This momentous occasion will be captured by our professional photographers.
No, there are no dressing rooms and there is no secure area to leave personal items. Therefore, only bring your academic apparel and leave personal items elsewhere. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
The IUPUC Commencement Celebration will begin promptly at 3 p.m. and will last approximately one and a half hours.
No, only ceremonial apparel rented from Herff Jones will be allowed. Orders must be placed online with a credit card by March 26, 2021.
The IU and Purdue diploma covers are presented during the celebration and will not contain the actual diplomas. You will receive a letter in the U.S. mail from the Office of Registrar Services advising when and how to pick up your diploma.
Alcoholic beverages, fireworks, balloons, silly string, and signs are not permitted in Columbus East High School. Please respect your fellow graduates and refrain from bringing these items. Do not leave purses, coats, or other personal items in the auxiliary gym area during the Commencement Celebration ceremony. Event organizers and venues will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

Students who are participating in the IUPUC Commencement Celebration and are aided by the use of a wheelchair, or require accessibility assistance, should call the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Dean at 812.348.7226 by Friday, April 2, 2021.
Guest who will be attending may use the designated wheelchair seating at in the rear of the gymnasium, on the ground floor level, which is accessible via the elevator. Ushers will direct guests to wheelchair seating.
Both students and guests should refer to the map of Columbus East High School to locate the accessible parking, entrances, and elevator.
