IUPUC Commencement Celebration

Celebrating your achievements

The Commencement Celebration is the campus' annual event to celebrate your success. Each year, the event is held in the Main Gymnasium at Columbus East High School. Graduates are requested to arrive by 2 p.m. and the procession and diploma cover presentation will begin promptly at 3 p.m.

2021 IUPUC Commencement Celebration

2 p.m. Graduates should arrive at CEHS and report to the auxiliary gymnasium for check-in. You will receive detailed instructions and an identification card at your division check-in table.

2:40 p.m. Procession line will assemble in the auxiliary gym.

2:55 p.m. Graduates, faculty, and dignitaries begin procession into the main gymnasium.

3 p.m. Commencement Celebration will promptly begin. The ceremony will last approximately one and half hours. 

Procession order

Marshals will lead the graduates in the commencement procession and ushers will direct them to seating. When you enter the row, please sit in the next available chair. At the beginning of the ceremony, all graduates and faculty will rise and remain standing through the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner.

At the end of the ceremony, please remain at your seat. Ushers will direct all graduates to exit by row. Ushers then will lead graduates to the auxiliary gym.

Is the celebration accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes, we are committed to the special needs of our graduates and guests.

Students who are participating in the IUPUC Commencement Celebration and are aided by the use of a wheelchair, or require accessibility assistance, should call the Office of the Vice Chancellor and Dean at 812.348.7226 by Friday, April 2, 2021.

Guests who will be attending may use the designated wheelchair seating at in the rear of the gymnasium, on the ground floor level, which is accessible via the elevator. Ushers will direct guests to wheelchair seating.

Both students and guests should refer to the map of Columbus East High School to locate the accessible parking, entrances, and elevator.


Professional photographs will be taken of each degree candidate at the Commencement Celebration.

You’ll receive detailed instructions and an identification card in the robing area.

How do I get my diploma?

Only the IU and Purdue diplomas covers will be presented at the Commencement Celebration and will not contain actual diplomas. Four to six weeks after your final class, you will receive a letter in the mail regarding diploma pickup. Once you have been notified, visit the Office of Registrar Services with a photo ID. If an in-person visit to campus is not feasible, other arrangements can be made.

Do not bring

Alcoholic beverages, fireworks, balloons, silly string and signs are not permitted in Columbus East High School. Please respect your fellow graduates and refrain from bringing these items.

Do not leave purses, coats, or other personal items in the auxiliary gym area during the Commencement Celebration ceremony. Event organizers and venues will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
